Caring for the Community

KMB has a proud tradition of community service in support of the young, the elderly, the disabled and others in need, sponsoring events organised by the Government and charities, as well as encouraging staff to participate in a variety of voluntary activities.

As a responsible corporate citizen, KMB supports a wide range of charity donation and sponsorship activities. KMB is an enthusiastic participant in sponsorship activities such as sporting and cultural events, industry-improvement campaigns and social awareness initiatives. For many years, KMB has participated in community sponsorship programmes such as the Corporate Challenge Half Marathon, Dress Special Day and New Territories Walk for Millions, organised by The Community Chest of Hong Kong, and other events and activities organised by the Government, charities and professional groups, such as the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, the Hong Kong Management Association Quality Award, and the Volunteer Movement of the Social Welfare Department.

Voluntary Work

Established in 1995, KMB's volunteer club, FRIENDS OF KMB, is active in social service, environmental protection and civic education. Besides encouraging members to be self-disciplined and to help and serve others by observing simple civic duties when travelling with KMB, the club has also organised various charitable events and social service activities for its members in the hope of promoting the spirit of social concern and care for others. Club members have visited children's homes, centres for the elderly and a sheltered workshop, and participated in charity walks, raffle ticket sales, carnivals and environmental protection initiatives. In 2009, its 3,100 members voluntarily contributed more than 13,000 hours of their time to community outreach, reaching over 90,000 hours of voluntary service since its inception in 1995.

Services for the Elderly and the Disabled

KMB is committed to continuously exploring ways to further facilitate the use of bus services by passengers with special needs. Over the years, KMB has offered free rides on all routes to disabled people and their accompanying carers on International Day of Disabled Persons and to people aged 65 and over on Senior Citizens' Day. KMB also offers a discounted fare of $2 or half fare, whichever is lower, to all people aged 65 and over travelling on Sundays and public holidays. To meet the needs of the elderly and the disabled, KMB has 1,901 super-low floor buses on the road. These buses have wide 2+2 seating, brightly coloured handrails, bell pushes, priority seats and a wheelchair space near the entrance or exit. The KMB website continues to receive recognition by enabling visually impaired and novice internet users to access transport information.
