KMB Bus Guide 2009 Charity Sale
KMB unveiled the latest route map, KMB Bus Guide 2009, with a bow to the society it serves. In line with KMB’s principle of “Caring for the Community”, the revenue generated from the charity sale will be donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong.
At the press conference today (Wednesday, 6 May 2009), KMB’s Managing Director, Mr. Edmond Ho, presented a cheque for HK$500,000 to Mr. Lawrence Yu, BBS, MBE, JP, Campaign Committee Co-chairman of The Community Chest of Hong Kong.
Mr. Ho said, “Having grown with Hong Kong people for years, KMB has very strong ties to the local society. As a committed public transport operator, we understand what kind of social responsibilities we need to shoulder, and we make every effort to serve the community in various ways. The charity sale of the bus guide exemplifies our constancy in caring for the community.”
In addition to sponsorships of events organised by the government and charities, KMB always encourages staff and passengers to participate in a variety of voluntary or charitable activities, such as the Corporate and Employee Contribution Programme of The Community Chest and KMB’s own passenger club, FRIENDS OF KMB. Indeed, in 2008 the Hong Kong Council of Social Service recognised KMB as a “Caring Company” for the seventh consecutive year. Every year, KMB offers free rides on all routes to disabled people on “International Day of Disabled Persons” and to people aged 65 and over on “Elderly Day”.
Mr. Lawrence Yu, BBS, MBE, JP said, “KMB has been one of the Chest’s staunchest supporters for many years. In addition to participating in our various fund-raising initiatives, they have also generously offered the use of their resources to promote our campaigns. KMB and the Chest share the same vision – to bring loving care to every part of Hong Kong.”
Mr. Ho continued, “Since 2003, all revenue generated from the charity sales of bus guides have been donated to The Community Chest of Hong Kong, which is an independent, non-profit making organisation neither funded nor operated by the Government. Every year it allocates all funds raised to its social welfare agencies to strengthen and maximise their services to the needy. Being a partner of The Community Chest, KMB shares its mission to build a caring society, and proactively supports and participates in its fundraising activities, such as the Community Chest Corporate Challenge, Dress Special Day and Walks for Millions.”
KMB Bus Guide 2009 provides detailed and accurate information on more than 400 KMB and Long Win bus routes operating across Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories, including terminating points, frequency, fare, routing, tips on route selection and bus-bus interchange packages. Coupled with features on sight-seeing spots throughout Hong Kong’s 18 Districts, the book combines useful information with elements of leisure and entertainment. The green leaf design on its front cover gives readers an environment-friendly, fresh and energetic impression. With 532 pages in full colour printing, the book features a new colour-coded fore-edge, which helps readers retrieve relevant maps and tables quickly. Bus stop names are marked on all its maps for passengers’ easy boarding and alighting. The geographical and human features of over 90 sight-seeing spots are introduced in various aspects, including history, culture, entertainment, shopping and natural landscape, adding a distinctive touch to the book. Other items include helpful hints to passengers on three themes: “Safety”, “Environmental Protection” and “Courtesy”.
To encourage more public participation in the charity sale this year, a number of bus-body print advertisements and bus shelter posters will be launched to promote more sales of the bus guide, so that more people in need can benefit.
KMB Bus Guide 2009 is available for sale from today from KMB’s eight Customer Service Centres, major bookstores (Commercial Press, Joint Publishing, Popular Bookstore, Chung Hua Book Company and Cosmos Books), convenience stores, and newspaper and magazine kiosks, at a retail price of HK$48.
