KMB Develops Lost Property Management System to Increase Efficiency

In order to handle passengers' enquiries about lost property more efficiently, KMB's Information Technology Department has developed a Lost Property Management System. The system links the lost property records of all depots and bus termini. By means of the enquiry function of the system, depot staff can check and locate lost property immediately, enabling them to return each item of lost property to passengers.

Since the system was launched in January 2009, it has handled around 1,700 cases of lost property each month, involving more than 4,000 individual items of lost property. With the Lost Property Management System in place, terminus supervisors can instantly input items left by passengers on buses or at termini, allowing the lost property section of each depot to read the details of the lost property.

Before the introduction of the Lost Property Management System, when information about lost property was sent in by terminus supervisors, staff in the lost property section would record the details in the lost property log book. This was quite time-consuming when handling passenger enquiries, especially when passengers were unable to provide enough information, or when the route the passenger had travelled on was jointly operated by two depots. In such cases, the staff member had to spend a great deal of time checking the records and contacting the lost property section of other depots. One of the big advantages of the Lost Property Management System is that it offers an online enquiry function so staff can access the details of lost property at all depots and termini at a stroke. In addition, the details of lost property are stored systematically, which makes it a lot more convenient for depot staff to check the lost property records.

The Lost Property Management System helps depot staff locate lost property immediately and increases efficiency.
