KMB Offers Free Rides for People with Disabilities on "International Day of Disabled Persons"
KMB will offer free rides on all its bus routes for people with disabilities and one accompanying carer on 6 December 2009 (Sunday). To enjoy their free ride, eligible passengers need only show their "Registration Card for People with Disabilities" when boarding the bus. This is the 16th consecutive year that KMB has supported the "International Day of Disabled Persons" event organised by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service.
Introduced in 1993, the "International Day of Disabled Persons" aims at encouraging people with disabilities to participate more in community activities. KMB has long been supportive of this meaningful event. To meet the needs of the disabled, KMB buses have increasingly incorporated a wide range of design features in recent years, including the introduction of super-low floor buses and the Electronic Bus Stop Announcement System, which delivers voice announcements on upcoming bus stops in Cantonese, Putonghua and English with corresponding displays on LED screens. The system is welcomed by people with audio or visual impairments.
