KMB Repairs Telephone Sets for Reuse

KMB devotes a great deal of effort to environmental protection. To relieve the pressure on landfills, KMB has implemented a company-wide waste reduction programme. In 2006, the company started to collect and repair damaged telephone sets and it has been successful in repairing 83 telephone sets as at the end of last year, a further contribution to the reduction of wastage.

A KMB spokesman said, “Hong Kong is comparatively rich in material supplies and resources, and people seldom think of reusing things. But actually certain goods or products are easy to repair and reuse, with the telephone sets used in offices being a good example. When we receive a report on a damaged telephone set, we will look into it to find out which part is damaged, with a view to combining parts that are still in good condition. We have successfully repaired a number of telephone sets in this way, by spending a bit of time and effort in support of our targets of saving resources and reducing waste. This reflects KMB’s dedication to protecting the environment on all fronts.”

To reduce the amount of solid waste disposed of in landfills, KMB has set a number of targets in waste reduction and has succeeded in reducing the amount of different kinds of waste. Last year, KMB was again awarded the Gold Wastewise Scheme Logo by the Environmental Protection Department.
