KMB Reduces Water Consumption
“Environmental Protection” has always been central to KMB’s operations, and a great deal of effort has been dedicated to saving and conserving resources. In 2009, the water consumption of KMB headquarters and all its depots was 370,438 cubic metres, a 7% reduction when compared to 2008.
Besides launching the “Save Water” campaign to remind staff to save water, KMB also adopts a number of environment-friendly measures in its daily operations. The bus-washing machines in KMB depots are equipped with a water recycling system and 70% of the water that is used every day to clean the bus fleet is treated and recycled, thus significantly reducing water consumption.
KMB’s Sha Tin and Lai Chi Kok Depots have both obtained ISO14001 certification from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency. ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems, providing a framework for organisations to manage aspects of their operations that affect the environment. KMB is the first bus company in Hong Kong to achieve this accreditation.
