KMB’s E-tendering System Reduces Paper Consumption

As part of its commitment to protecting the environment, KMB has implemented green procurement. By means of an E-tendering system developed in-house, paper consumption has been greatly reduced in the tendering process. Since its full implementation in 2006, around 2,100,000 sheets of paper have been saved, the equivalent of around 246 trees.

Each year, KMB invites around 5,000 tenders, covering around 30,000 items in materials purchasing and works projects. In all its tender invitations, KMB asks contractors to submit information on products and a quotation by email. Importing the information received into the E-tendering system result in automatic storage and analysis of the data. Print outs are no longer required and a great deal of paper is saved. The system also helps enhance the security of data and increase the efficiency of tender processing by skipping the step of data entry.

Since implementation, the number of tenders the system handles has been increasing. Allowing for a few contractors who need to submit tender information through traditional channels owing to technological problems, the E-tendering system currently handled as much as 99% of tenders.
