“Friends of KMB” Helped New Immigrants to Adapt to Society
“Friends of KMB” (FRN), in collaboration with the International Social Service - Hong Kong Branch, organised activities for 35 new immigrants recently, helping them to better integrate into the community. FRN gave them English lessons and taught them words relating to bus services, such as bus captain, route, Octopus card and coins, by playing games and providing worksheets. They also made use of drama performances to encourage participants to be polite and help contribute to an enjoyable bus journey.
One of the FRN members who helped in organising the event said, “Bus is an important mode of public transport in Hong Kong. We hope to let them know more about buses as well as the duties of a passenger through today’s activities. We hope that they can quickly adapt to their new lives in Hong Kong and help build a harmonised and integrated society.”
“Friends of KMB” is a volunteer organisation established by KMB. Besides encouraging members to be self-disciplined and to help and serve others by observing simple civic duties when travelling on KMB, the club has also organised various charitable events and social service activities for its members in the hope of promoting the spirit of social concern and care for others.
